I LOVE THIS QUOTE IN HONOR OF THE JOURNEY OF THE HEART JOEL TOOK IN THIS BOOK! HERE IS MY REVIEW:
The Little Things by: Jay Northcote (audiobook)
reviewed by: Becky
There are lots of things that brighten Joel's life. His three-year-old daughter, Evie, is one. His close relationship with her mother, his best friend from university, is another. Joel's boyfriend, Dan, adds spice to his child-free nights, and Joel is pretty happy with how things are.
Then one cold and rainy night, everything changes. Joel's life is turned upside down when he becomes a full-time dad to Evie, and his previously carefree relationship with Dan cracks under the strain.
Meeting Liam, who acts as if getting hurt isn't a foregone conclusion, shakes Joel to the core. Their attraction is mutual, and Liam makes no secret of how serious he is about Joel. But Joel is wary. He tells himself he's keeping Liam at a distance for Evie's sake when really he's protecting his own heart. Taking a chance on this new relationship with Liam may seem a small step - a little thing - but is it one Joel can take after losing so much already?
Cover Artist: Paul Richmond
Narrator: Matthew Lloyd Davies
Length: 7 hours and 30 minutes
I love Jay Northcote's books, she crafts a story so well that you just find yourself captivated to the end, and this story is no different!
Joel is satisfied with his life, a daughter he adores, his best friend (said daughters mother), and a boyfriend, while not the passionate relationship one dreams about, his time with Dan is fun and keeps Joel satisfied. One night all that changes.
Tragedy strikes and Joel's life is thrown into chaos, his relationship doesn't survive in the uprooting of his life, and Joel finds himself sweet little Evie's soul caregiver and, if he is honest with himself, a bit lonely.
Joel meets Liam after a hospital trip that is cause for further stress, and after breaking down on the mans shoulder, and phone calls and texts, Joel admits Liam seems like the perfect guy, but can Joel let go of the "what might happens" and just let himself be happy?
Liam knows Joel is the one early on it seems, can he get Joel to admit he feels the same and, along with Evie, be the family they all want, or will Joel's fears make them wish for what might have been?
This is a wonderful story about moving past hurt and fear and learning it's ok to be happy and live life to the fullest!
Thanks Jay, for a powerful, wonderful story, and thanks to narrator Matthew Lloyd Davies, for a wonderful retelling of it!
the 5 Tesco carrier bag rating :)
