OK, SO IT IS NO SECRET THAT C.J. BISHOP IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE AUTHORS, AND HER PHOENIX CLUB SERIES HAS A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART, SO WILL THE SPIN OFF SERIES THE COWBOY GANGSTER BE AS POWERFUL AND GROUNDBREAKING? OH HELL YEAH, IF BOOK 1 IS ANYTHING TO GO BY (and i bet my next paycheck it is)! HERE IS MY REVIEW OF SHOT THROUGH THE HEART, BUy LINKS, AND A SHORT EXCERPT! LET'S GET STARTED:
AWWW MY SWEET AXEL, THIS QUOTE IS PERFECT FOR HIM! (WHO ELSE JUST WANTS TO HUG HIM AND NOT LET GO?!) HERE IS MY REVIEW:
Shot Through The Heart (The Cowboy Gangster #1)
reviewed by: Becky
Clint “The Cowboy” Maddox is a force to be reckoned with. Enforcer for the Sanitini family, the cowboy has known only violence, pain and death. But for a select few he calls “brothers”, Clint feels no love for mankind and believes that “an eye for an eye” is the only true means of retribution. ‘Let the punishment fit the crime’ is his philosophy when dealing with his enemies.
But upon meeting Axel Anders, a frightened and lost young man with a stained soul of his own, Clint’s hard-as-steel exterior begins to crack as he finds himself intrigued by the effect this vulnerable “kid” has on him. Yet when Axel’s presence begins to disturb the ground beneath which Clint’s darkest, most painful memories have lain dormant for over two decades, he begins to understand that the young man poses a greater threat than any flesh and blood enemy –and knows he must put the kid out of his life, or face a resurrected past that he believed to be dead and buried.
But walking away from Axel and not looking back –proves to be a much greater challenge than he is prepared for.
When I first met Axel in Angel's books of the Phoenix Club series, I couldn't hate him, he was a victim of his circumstances, and while I hated what he begrudgingly sort of took part in, I wanted more for him. Thank goodness C.J. felt the same!
Axel has had nothing but heartache and pain in his life, he hasn't been loved like he deserves, and he just wants to be important to someone. Axel gets a new lease on life when Clint sets him up with an apartment and a job, Axel even makes his first real friend! He should be content and be able to start trying to put the past behind him, so why can't he quit thinking about Clint?
Clint is having the same trouble it seems, and his feelings for Axel are stirring up memory's better left buried, memories of how "The Cowboy" came to be! Can Clint control his feelings, or will he give in to the urge to get closer to Axel?
This book will invoke all kinds of emotions, not the least of which will be rage! You will root for both these men, and you will fall in love with new characters, (could Cochise meet someone that he is attracted to also?), but most of all you will fall deeper in love with these two men who need each other so! Thanks C.J., for giving us an amazing first book in a new adventure with beloved friends!

HERE IS A SHORT EXCERPT FOR YOU:
“Huh!” Axel jerked his head up, unaware he’d begun to drift into sleep, his face pressed against his knees,
and arms curled over his head –when the knock on the door jolted him to full consciousness. His heart shot
into his throat, pounding wildly, the events of the evening exploding through his mind. A hard sob lodged in his
throat, choking him as his arms dropped and hands flattened against the floor, holding himself firm against the
door. He squeezed his eyes shut and fresh tears rolled down his cheeks.
Go away…go away…please…
In the deep recesses of his mind, he knew his panic and fear of whoever was on the other side of the door
was surely irrational. Even if the men had gotten away from Jimmy, they wouldn’t have followed him home.
Still, he couldn’t peel himself away from the door, his arms straining and aching as he used himself as a
barricade.
Another knock and nausea welled and twisted up his intestines, causing a sharp cramping in his gut.
Please…leave me alone.
“Axel?” Jimmy’s muffled voice pushed through the door. “It’s me. Jimmy. Come on, open up.” A short
pause, then he spoke softer. “It’s okay, Axel…you’re safe now. I took care of them, they’re not gonna hurt you
anymore. Ever.”
Axel lifted his hands and hugged himself. His legs didn’t want to move.
“I’m not gonna go away, Axel,” he said. “Not without knowing you’re all right. So you can make me stand
out here all night if you want, but I’m not leaving.”
His vision blurred. Why did Jimmy care if he was all right? Why had he even risked his life to help him? He
didn’t even know Axel, not really. Why would anyone risk their life for him?
A low, steady continuous knocking began – Thump. Thump. Thump –and Jimmy humming softly, “I’m
gonna knock on your door, I’m gonna ring on your bell, I’m gonna tap on your window, too…if you don’t come
out tonight while the moon is bright…I’m gonna knock and ring and tap until you do.” He continued on with
the song, rapping his knuckle on the door in time with the beat of the song.
Axel crawled slowly to his feet and wiped his face, then unlocked the door and opened it as Jimmy was
right in the middle of a verse.
“…this ain’t no time to sleep…best count kisses ‘stead of counting sheep-” He ceased abruptly and smiled.
“Did anyone ever tell you that you sing horribly?” Axel mumbled.
Jimmy’s smile widened. “Why, yes they have. So now I sing to get my way –people will do whatever I ask if
I’ll just shut up.” He indicated the open door. “My proof.”
THANK YOU FOR LOOKING AT SHOT THROUGH THE HEART WITH ME! GRAB THIS ONE IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT! YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH THESE GUYS JUST LIKE I HAVE!
